Feds report on petroleum reflects east & west coast refinery struggles

The Energy Information Administration released its weekly report on the status of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

CRUDE INVENTORIES:
Crude oil inventories decreased by 2.0 million barrels to a total of 373.1 million barrels. At 373.1 million barrels, inventories are 33.6 million barrels above last year (9.9%) and are above the upper limit of the average range.

GASOLINE INVENTORIES:
Gasoline inventories increased by 0.9 million barrels to 199.5 million barrels. At 199.5 million barrels, inventories are down 6.8 million barrels, or 3.3% lower than last year. Here's how individual regions and their gasoline inventory fared last week: East Coast (-0.2mb...

I don't think that will have any affect on the prices we will pay at the pump either way.

lots of refinery struggling is self-inflicted. Do some more preventative maintenance and many of the problems won't happen.

Increasing gasoline inventories would indicate that refineries are keeping up - but I guess they can always spin it some way to justify raising prices.

There's that Orwellian term again: "Energy Information Administration".

The blog articles either have little or nothing to do with gas prices, or are statistical data ostensibly intended to describe, and perhaps influence, the ups and down of the market.

Yes, our prices will go down but we are no longer the controllers of the price of gas and oil. Since we now export more and more refined products, it is now the world price that determines much of what we pay for gas.

unfortunately, oil and gas prices reflect *GLOBAL* supply and demand, and there's little we can do, as consumers, to change that, except switch over to "fuels" for our transportation needs, that do not come from oil.
